Waste Management Officer (Recovery and Disposal)

Devon County Council
Salary
£21,057 - £24,717
Closing date

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Devon County Council to assist with the portfolio of waste transfer, recovery & disposal contracts. With a recycling rate of over 55%, we continue to implement our waste strategy and manage waste higher up the waste hierarchy including diverting waste from landfill into recovery.

You will help manage the contracts to divert waste into the two Energy from Waste plants in Devon, one directly and one as a partnership arrangement. In addition, you will help to manage the transfer stations and remaining landfill disposal contracts. You will also be involved in the overall management and aftercare of the County Council’s 55 closed landfill sites ensuring that they cause minimal impact to the local environment.

You will have a degree (or equivalent experience) - ideally in a waste management related subject - but, more importantly, you will be keen to learn about the waste management industry and be committed to our environmental activities. Enthusiastic and driven, you have a proven track record in project management. You are open-minded and business focused, with an organised and analytical approach to your work - and you are used to maintaining superb attention to detail while working to tight deadlines. A great team player with excellent IT, data analysis/management and communication skills, you are the perfect person to support our forward thinking team.

In return, as well as a friendly work environment, we will give you support, learning opportunities and training to develop your skills as part of our career progression scheme.
