About Us

At Oxfordshire County Council, we are committed to enhancing our environment and promoting a circular economy. We are actively looking at our ways of working, using everything we have learnt and heard from our people about the organisational and personal benefits of agile working. You can expect support to do your job and deliver great results.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a close, friendly and high performing team in one of the best performing councils in the country for household waste management. We also offer great working conditions including agile working to help meet your and our needs.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Waste Contracts Officer to join our Waste & Circular Economy team. In this multi-faceted role, you will be supporting the Household Waste Recycling Centre Manager and Principal Officers in managing Oxfordshire’s key strategic waste contracts, covering our Household Waste Recycling Centre service, closed landfill sites, energy from waste, as well as anaerobic digestion, composting and clinical waste treatment.

As part of your day-to-day duties, you will be required to undertake site inspections and audits as part of monitoring contract performance, liaise with our contractors to ensure smooth service delivery as well as investigate and respond to complaints from the public. You will also contribute to wider projects, collaborating with internal departments to enhance waste management infrastructure and processes as well as help to implement effective waste management strategies and contribute to our goal of establishing a circular economy within Oxfordshire.

About you

The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge in the waste management sector (or a related field), excellent written and verbal communication ability, plus excellent customer service skills. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel is also necessary. Most importantly, the ideal candidate will have a dynamic can-do attitude and be a team player.
