As the Cleansing Manager you will lead on managing all the cleansing services across Newport, from street cleansing to weed spraying or arranging clean-ups for special events, and overseeing all cleansing related contracts for the Council, working closely with a range of contractors, partners and suppliers.
About Newport
Newport is a vibrant, forward-thinking city steeped in a rich industrial heritage that recently has proved it can re-establish and adapt itself as a centre of modern industry and commerce.
Newport City Council’s Environment and Public Protection service area brings together services such as waste and cleansing, grounds, community protection, parks and recreation, cemetery and crematorium, climate change, biodiversity and regulatory services.
In the cleansing area, we focus on providing a first class 7 day a week cleansing service within available resources while maximising recycling opportunities. This is an exciting time to join Waste and Cleansing Services team as one of 4 team managers to contribute to our objective of reducing council carbon emissions to net zero carbon by 2030.
About the job
You will play a key role as we continue to revitalise our City Centre, by providing an outstanding service and ensuring the right cleanliness standards are met, and other key initiatives such as reviewing all the services and processes on an ongoing basis and making recommendations for improvement or development.
Community engagement is at the core of our values, and there are a range of projects you will have involvement with, including exciting street arts projects working to improve neighbourhoods, or work to transform areas of Newport in partnership with other organisations.
Another key element of this role will include waste engagement and enforcement activities, to ensure our residents and businesses take part in the recycling effort and we tackle issues linked to littering and flytipping.
You will report directly to the Waste and Cleansing Service Manager and will work closely with and provide support as needed to other managers across the Environment and Public Protection service area.
