Note: The successful candidate will be required to regularly attend in person meetings in Wales. The team meets in our Cardiff office fortnightly and there will be on site meetings with local authorities.
Do you want to help councils across Wales to improve their services and help Wales achieve its ambition to be the best recycling nation in the world?
Do you have hands on experience of making recycling services effective and implementing improvements?
WRAP is an expert in sustainability including waste management and recycling. We are looking for a Local Authority Technical Consultant to join WRAP’s Collaborative Change Programme. As a Local Authority Technical Consultant, you’ll be joining a team of experts in supporting councils to meet Welsh Government’s ambitious Beyond Recycling circular economy strategy.
You will manage and deliver a series of projects with councils around Wales to help them develop their recycling and waste strategies. Engaging with local authorities on recycling and waste technical and policy issues, you will provide advice on potential changes both large and small. You will need to use your knowledge of the range of collection, recycling and sorting systems and understand the Welsh policy and legislative context for delivering recycling and waste services. If you enjoy developing effective working relationships with individuals at a variety of levels and using your technical knowledge to really make a difference, this could be the role for you! Although not essential, the ability to speak Welsh is desirable for the role.
When applying for the role, you’ll be asked to describe how you meet the following job essentials:
- Strong operational experience in planning and delivering recycling and waste collection services including experience of rolling out new services and implementing service changes.
- Proven ability to engage and influence key senior stakeholders and/or decision makers to agree and deliver change.
- Experience of developing business cases in support of new services
- Confident presenter and communicator with experience of delivering workshops and facilitating meetings with senior level delegates.
Demonstrable experience of writing technical reports including for a non-technical audience.
Taking note: research shows that while men tend to apply for jobs when they meet around 60% of the criteria, women and marginalised people tend to only apply when they check every box. So, if you think you have what it takes, but don't necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still apply.
Closing date for this role is 24 June at 09:00.
Interviews: shortlisted candidates will be invited to first round interviews after the closing date. It is intended that they will take place on 4 July in person in Cardiff.
