Fairport successfully tendered for the provision to retro fit reversible lids on behalf of London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH) on 20th October 2020.

LBTH were looking to acquire a specialist service for their pre-existing four wheelie steel bins across the council’s site.

LBTH invited suitably qualified and experienced contractors to convert existing recycling bins into reverse-lidded recycling bins.

The council's aim was to improve recycling rates on residential estates and reduce contamination by implementing a number of changes including reverse-lidded bins.

Tower Hamlets Homes (THH) manage 83 estates on behalf of the LBTH. The project aims to cover at least 25THH estates before the end of March 2021.

Fairport shortly undertook the task following an implementation period. This contract is being overseen by our refurbishment facility based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire and work is being carried out at an LBTH facility.

In order to fulfil the contract our onsite mobile team were utilised as the bins are all located on council land.

We have mobile teams operating from each of our individual depots working on similar contracts or adhoc work, which is comparable to the operation of the LBTH contract. This option gives Councils the opportunity to reduce any interruption to your users, whilst vital work is carried out. Your assets are fully operation again in a limited time.

Faiport also recently worked with Biffa and Wealden District Council, providing full refurbishment services and fitting again with reverse lids at our third facility based in Bridgwater, Somerset.  The refurb process allows wheelie bins to be enitrely recycled and reprocessed to bespoke specification.

Our provision ensures that we repair your container by replacing any damaged parts such as the wheels or lids, welding and plating any damage to the body. All old steel parts and plastic lids are fully recycled through our partner companies. Providing you with a full circular service.

Each of our three depots are strategically located to give national coverage and they each have their own dedicated transport fleet. This helps our customers to limit their travelling distance, down time and carbon footprint.

The fantastic examples of LBTH and Wealden District Council, focussing on increasing recycling rates and trialling new methods are cost efficient and may be more efficient. By making small alterations you may facilitate positive results and big transformations to user behaviour.

It’s all about changing people’s mind sets whilst keeping the change small, accessible and convenient.
