At last The Waste Industry Safety and Health (WISH) Forum has its own website.  LARAC has had a voice on the forum for many years, and is currently represented by Exec member, Mark Foxall.

The aim of WISH is to identify, devise and promote activities to improve industry health and safety standards.

WISH is a multi-party forum made up of organisations representing the waste and recycling industry. Its purpose is to provide information, identify solutions and stimulate action across the industry to ensure the health, safety and well-being of those working in the industry and those affected by its activities. It works by consensus and partnership, promoting good practice, sharing ideas and solutions.

Traditionally WISH has worked to identify and drawn up solutions and guidance to health and safety issues within the industry.  This information is now available on the WISH website.  WISH guidance documents are clearly set out and cover 25 different health and safety subjects.  Information sheets cover health and safety leadership,  which features a  self-assessment tool and practical advice on Lock-off Recycling/Recovery Machinery. The downloadable Practical Pocket Guide is a very accessible document aimed at smaller businesses but has many useful tips for all in the industry. Case studies, on the website cover subjects as diverse as 'Culture Change through Leadership and Reversing Assistance.

The WISH Blueprint is downloadable from the website as a pdf  - it comes out of a meeting in 2013 that explored the challenges that fact our industry and health and safety and welfare - the Blueprint represents a Roadmap to success.

It's certainly worth taking a look at the new site, it might be five minutes well worth  taking.
