We are helping Anthesis with a research project for Defra to consider whether changing to an EPR style funded collection of WEEE from households, that would be free for the resident, would increase the capture of WEEE.
Full details are in the attached document.
Our contribution is to help gather robust data to inform the policy debate. As councils or their contractors undertake bulky item collections from households, only you have the data that is needed. Rest assured responses are totally anonymous unless you expressly give permission to be contacted.
The survey should take around 5 minutes to complete, we only need one per authority, so please check who among you is filling in the form. You will need to collate your data first for:
- A complete years’ worth of data on the number of bulky collections and the tonnage collected;
- Any charging structure you apply;
- Any breakdown of WEEE tonnages – LDA, SDA, fridge freezers
- Cost of the bulky waste collection service and any breakdown of these costs
- System changes and impacts
This would be a significant change to the current system and provide additional funding for local authorities which is why LARAC is keen to work with Anthesis to collect and improve data for this waste stream.
Please complete the survey via this questionnaire: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/7S9MGGY
The deadline for your response is 11:00 on Monday 11th April 2022
Thank you very much for your assistance in this important piece of policy research.
