Many local authorities have decommissioned internal bin rooms and refuse chutes in high density urban buildings, and this has meant the four-wheeled collection containers are stored outside.

Waste volumes have doubled in recent years, significantly impacting the environment. For residents in flats, terraces and high-occupancy properties, managing waste and recycling has become increasingly challenging and unpleasant. The issue stems from inadequate waste storage, leading to overflowing bins, litter, and fly-tipping in local areas.

Storm Environmental’s four-wheeled bin housing POD (Place of Disposal) provides a convenient and secure solution for community waste disposal while encouraging participation in recycling. Each POD holds a single container, and multiple units can be arranged to create a streamlined row of disposal points for waste and recycling collection. Customisable entry ports can be tailored to meet customer requirements, ensuring ease of use and supporting the success of local authority waste management schemes.

The aesthetically appealing design of the units plays a key role in encouraging community use. Positioned in prominent, safe locations, the units feature easily accessible entry ports that boost recycling participation while helping to reduce litter, fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.

Waste material fires pose a significant danger in high-density residential areas. That’s why the Storm POD is built from 100% galvanized steel. This robust construction not only contains fires caused by accidents or vandalism but also helps extinguish them by cutting off the oxygen supply, effectively starving the flames.

POD units are delivered to the site fully assembled, eliminating the need for on-site construction. Made entirely from galvanized steel, they feature a durable powder-coated exterior customised to the client’s specifications. Large information logos can also be affixed to the front panel for clear communication. The container entry door is built for security, preventing unauthorised access, yet its well-balanced design and sturdy hinge points ensure it opens and closes effortlessly when emptying the internal wheeled bin.

The robust slam lock ensures the unit remains securely closed, automatically locking when the operating crews shut the door after emptying the internal container. Access to the entry door is granted using a specially designed key.

Already adopted by numerous local authorities, Storm is happy to provide testimonials showcasing the success of the POD units and the positive impact they have had on councils and their communities.
