Resource London has launched the ‘Cost of Contamination Toolkit’, a free online tool to help local authorities calculate the real cost of contamination in their recycling.
Although many authorities are suffering the impacts of contamination, there is no consistent approach to measuring its full cost.
LARAC has worked with WRAP and the ESA to develop a toolkit which can be used by all.
It will enable LAs to:
Calculate the true cost of contamination in the recycling stream – for example, the cost of communication or extra contractor costs
Provide officers with evidence to secure internal resources and funding to help tackle the issue
Provide in-depth service information for reporting to members
